Redbud Ice House occupies the space that was once home to Contigo.

MaieB Hospitality, the group behind award-winning Olamaie, Little Ola’s Biscuits, Maie Day at South Congress Hotel and more, officially opened Redbud Ice House Tuesday in the former Contigo space at 2027 Anchor Lane.

The casual restaurant and bar with retro sensibilities led by chef Michael Fojtasek specializes in Wagyu cheeseburgers, beers served in frosted schooner glasses, soft-serve ice cream and more. The menu also includes a fried pork chop sandwich, bar snacks like queso and bean dip, and fried green beans, a nod to former Contigo owners Ben Edgerton and chef Andrew Wiseheart, who are partners on the project.

The vibes at Redbud take inspiration from old Central Texas ice houses and Austin concert venues of the 1970s, with walls covered in vintage concert posters. The indoor-outdoor space features long wooden tables and locally stitched booths, an area for live music and a playground.

The menu for Redbud Ice House, which specializes in smashburgers and officially opens to the public March 19.

"Redbud is a place for sharing. We're thrilled to talk about what we love and why. The opportunity to connect with our buddies in the community through food, music and celebrations is what excites us,” Fojstaek said of the space that welcomed friends and family last week as part of a soft open and hosted a SXSW-related music showcase Sunday.

This isn't the first burger-centric concept from MaieB, which also operates the food truck Gimme Burger at Butler Pitch & Putt.

Redbud Ice House is open for lunch and dinner daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
