Congratulations to Godfrey Baldwin.
The 75-year-old, who lives in Georgetown, started running when he was about 40. When he retired from his job as a statistician with the U.S. Census Bureau in 2006, he started recording on a calendar just how many miles he’d covered.
“I was never a fast jogger and now I am an old slow jogger,” Baldwin says. “I enjoy jogging and hope to continue as long as my health allows.”
His goal is to run 4 miles at a time, three days a week, and he usually comes pretty close. He likes running in the fall, winter and spring best, but says running in the summer isn’t so bad – as long as you accept the fact that you’re going to get sweaty.
“If you start out with that expectation it’s not that bad,” he says.
He mostly rambles around Georgetown, and at one time prided himself on the fact that he’d jogged every street, parking lot and alley in the city. Since then, though, more streets have gone in that he hasn’t explored.
